Sugar’s “Topless Tuesday” NHL Picks
New York Rangers (-140) @ Carolina (L)
Carolina has lost almost all chance of making playoffs. With 63 points, they sit in 7th place in the Metropolitan Division. The Rangers are in 2nd place behind Pittsburg in the same division. Lundqvist has been solid (as usual) between the pipes for the Rangers. New scorer, Martin St. Louis, has not scored in a Rangers sweater yet through 3 games. Do not expect this drought to last long. St. Louis is a natural goal scorer and will find his stride soon I suspect. Carolina heads into tonight riding a 2 game losing streak while the Rangers on are a 2 game win streak. Look for the Rangers to roll on the road tonight in Hurricane country.
Sugar’s Pick: Rangers -140
New Jersey @ Philadelphia (-140) (L)
This pick should not come as any surprise to my faithful readers. I have made little to no attempt on hiding my feelings on the Devils this season. They rely on a 43 year old to carry their offense and a 41 year old to keep the biscuit out of the net. While Jagr is a beauty, and has been sniping geno’s since long before I was born, his age is undeniable. It’s crunch time in the NHL and these are the games that veteran players typically start showing their age. Philly is one of the most hostile places in all of sports to play in. The Flyer faithful wear their hardhats during the day and change into the ugliest shade of orange imaginable at night. They slam 10 beers on their way to the game and scream horrible things for 3 straight hours while their Flyers go to work; physically and on the score board. Expect Philly to roll on the busted up Devils.
Sugar’s Pick: Phildelphia -140
Washington @ Pittsburgh (OVER 5.5) (L)
These two clubs have scored 397 goals combined this season. This match up features some of the most elite goal scorers to play the game. Washington as usual isn’t strong on the defensive side of the puck. Ovi’s scoring perimeter includes the entire ice surface and most of the surrounding metropolitan area, which has always made up for their lack of defense. I expect the Pens to roll on the Caps tonight but, more importantly, I expect a high scoring game from both sides. This game should easily go over 5 goals between both sides.
Sugar’s Pick: OVER 5.5
Edmonton @ Minnesota (-195) (L)
These two teams have only played twice this year. Minnesota has won both times; the combined score being 7-1. Edmonton sits in last place in the Pacific Division with 52 points while the Wild have 76 points and sit in 4th place in the Central Division. Edmonton has no chance at making playoffs and Minnesota has one of the wild card spots locked up. Minnesota rolls on the Oilers and the world carries on not giving a shit.
Sugar’s Pick: Minnesota -195
