Tonight is one of those rare nights where taking the points is actually going to be an entertaining experience. Rather than getting 9 on a garbage Milwaukee team and then watching them brick their way to a fifteen point loss; tonight you get three points for a team that features legends like Love, LeBron, and James Jones!! This should be a fun one, as the Cavs head into OKC looking to continue their recent string of success and show the Thunder and KD that LeBron still runs this league.
BJ's Take: I love the Cavs here! We have the two of the three best players in the league (LeBron and Westbrook) going at it, complimented by two Kevins! For some reason people still think Kevin Durant is good, but that whole argument is going to get thrown out the window tonight as LeBron triple-doubles the Cavs to victory over one of the most poorly constructed rosters in the NBA.
HOU at SAC (+1)
Boogie and Dwight will be out this game, so expect a lot of contested jumpers to go up in a very streetball-esque matchup. People are all over the Rockets here as they should be. Houston is one of the best teams in the league and despite a bevy of injuries, the Rocks have been consistently great through the year. The problem is a) they still don't have Dwight and b) they just played the Warriors less than 24 hours ago! That's a big deal. The Warriors will mentally and physically exhaust any team and MVP candidate James Harden has been having back issues (spasms) that almost kept him out of last nights game. I see a close Sac Town home win and a lot of dough for Vegas tonight.
Sugar's NHL Diatribe Picks
Calgary (-165) @ Buffalo
Calgary has dropped 2 straight but if you're looking for a bounce back win (and they are) then Buffalo is who you want to play. The Sabers don't exactly have what you might call an "elite offense". Calgary will have room to make numerous defensive mistakes without paying for them on the scoreboard. Look for the Flames to roll tonight.
Columbus (+165) @ Washington
Columbus hasn't lost yet in December. They still have a LONG way to go to make up for their dismal start to the season. Nevertheless, they're on the comeback trail. I've said repeatedly that I don't think the Caps are a good hockey team; take away Ovi and they're a lower tier NHL team. Ovi's an amazing hockey player but no team should depend on a player as much as the Caps depend on Ovi. Last year Stamkos broke his leg and the Bolts made the playoffs. If Ovi broke his leg today the Caps would be finished in terms of playoffs. I think the Jackets isolate and shut down Ovi tonight and win one on the road.
New Jersey (+115) @ Philadelphia
The Flyers have 1 win in their last 5 games. Their daily struggles with keeping the organization together have been entertaining to say the least. New Jersey isn't exactly a powerhouse but it's Philly.
Chicago -1.5 (+235) @ Boston
Chicago is on fire. They're crushing opponents like Catz at the local middle school's open gym. Apparently there's a group of people who have been questioning Toews... To you "people" I say this: 2 rings, an Olympic GOLD medal, 2 straight NCAA Frozen Four appearances, and a Midget Major AAA National Championship. Toews does nothing but win everywhere he goes. If Chicago doesn't win the Cup this year it won't be because Toews didn't do his part.
Los Angeles @ Ottawa (+130)
LA is coming off a shutout loss to, none other than, Buffalo. There's a midseason coaching change taking place in Ottawa but don't count the Sens out. Adversity just means opportunity for players to prove their value. Ottawa is a solid team and I expect them to win at home tonight.
Carolina @ Tampa -1.5 (+130)
Tampa needs a win right now to regain control of the division. El Captain Stamkos has the pressure on right now. December and January are typically when the top 2-3 teams in each conference separate themselves from the pack. With the Wings rolling hard right now the pressure is on Stamkos and Co. to keep up in the East. A home game against the Canes should be a no brainer. Johnson and Stamkos should put on a scoring clinic tonight.
Smashville -1.5 (+185) @ Arizona
The 'Ville should roll tonight. They've proven to be one of the best, if not THE best, team in the league so far. Again, it's December. The adrenaline of the new season has worn off and the aches and pains are setting in. Nashville wants to establish itself as an elite club. A game against a squandering Yotes team should be a lay in.
