Dirty Picks - The Pickoff

The staff here at Dirty Picks have decided to kick things up a notch starting today. How are we doing this?  With our first ever, possibly semi-annual, Pickoff.  Now, Pickoff’s come in all shapes and sizes (obviously), so let’s layout the rulez for this here contest:

1. Each participant will start with 20 DPD’z (Dirty Pick Dollaz)
2. One and ONLY one pick may be entered into the contest per day
3. The player may wager any amount of his/her choice.
4. There are no bailouts. (This isn’t the U.S. government) If you run out of DPD’z you are out.
5. A pick may be made on any game listed on Bovada that day.
6. The contest will begin on February 11, 2015 and conclude on February 18, 2015.
7. The winner will be decided by total earnings retained upon the end of the contest period.
8. The winner will receive a prize from each losing participant valued $10.
9. The prizes will be purchased on Amazon or something.

Day 4

Sugar - 7 DPD to win 4.38 DPD
Winnipeg @ Detroit (-160)
Detroit slipped up a little on the road in Pittsburgh last game.  Tonight they are back in the comfort of the Joe and their fans.  Winnipeg was on the giving end of a blockbuster deal this past week revolving around forward Evander Kane.  The Wings have been on fire lately and I don't think one bad game in pittsburgh is going to change that.

Mr. Nutz - 3 DPD to win 1.15 DPDS
 COL @ NYI (- 260)
Whatever. I've thrown in the towel. If you want to win a shit ton of money, bet on Columbus tonight. Time for me to ride off into the sunset with 0 DPDs

After a rough start to the Dirty Pick off, B Catz rebounded big last night and took a commanding lead over the other two "contestants". To explain my strategy here, I would like to reference baseball which is something we are deeply fond of here at DP inc. In baseball when you get a lead you start playing a little more conservative, drawing more walks and trying to get people on base. And that right there is exactly why baseball is the worst sport in the world. Lets just say that's not how I play baseball or company picking contests; lets go even further and say that this contest is a low hanging curve cheeseball and my picks are a juiced up, pissed off (redundant really) A Rod that just got done admiring himself in the mirror for 3 hours before the game. Not sure why I used a baseball themed intro for my basketball picks, but here they are!

Giannis "The Alphabet" Atempk...... +285 to win the slam dunk contest, 3 DPd's to win 8.55 DPd's

So everyone has Zach La "Vine" winning this contest and its very possible. While still a mediocre basketball player, he can jump out of the gym and has already had multiple dunk off videos where he was clearly the winner. But have you ever seen the Greek Freak dunk? Or walk? Or block a shot, corral it, and dribble it from one end to the other and dunk it??? Because its crazy to watch. This kid is built like a young KG but runs the floor like a 2 guard!! Even if some of his dunks aren't that impressive (which I doubt) it will still be enjoyable to watch because of his athleticism and crazy length. I think he wins the fan vote en route to an upset slam dunk contest win!!!

Stephen Curry to win the 3-Pt shooting contest 6.00 DPd's to win 18 DPd's

Throwing six dollars on this contest is like tying a letter to a pigeon and throwing it out of the window hoping that it reaches your friend in the middle of nowhere Michigan (aka Michigan). This contest is loaded!! It has arguably the five or six best shooters of the last decade, if not ever!!! KORVER! THOMPSON! RAY ALLEN!!! Just kidding about J Shuttlesworth, but seriously picking one of these dudes to win is impossible. The only reason, and I mean the only reason I am going with Curry is because he has a video out right now for ESPN where he was actually practicing for the competition against washed up retired athletes!! That last part aside, seriously he was practicing for the 3-pt shootout!! I think Curry comes with it tonight and wins this one in a route a la Larry Bird style.

Isaiah Thomas 3 DPd's to win 12 DPd's

Smallest, quickest guard in the contest! This one is really a no-brainer.
