WWE Royal Rumble Odds and Predictions

2016 WWE Royal Rumble

Well it's that time once again!! The Road to Wrestlemania starts tonight with the 2016 Royal Rumble and after last year's atrocity, I think we're in for a treat as no one seems to have a clue as what will happen tonight. Let's just hope and pray that the big man himeself, Vinny Mac, the Vin man, Vincent Kennedy McMahon can take 5 minutes from his all day masturbation sesh (whilst staring at a pic of Roman Reigns with the WWE title of course) to come up with a finish worthy of Rumbles past. Now to try and narrow down possible winners of this battle royal by going through what we know.

  • This is the first time the WWE title will be DEFENDED in the Rumble. Roman Reigns will enter number one and have to outlast 29 other men (heh) to retain.
  • This means that the winner is going to have to be someone headline worthy. Someone that Vince McMahon can rely on to fill a stadium with 100,000 people in March.
  • That person is either going to be Roman Reigns or will likely face Roman Reigns at Mania for the title.
  • There is a chance, and please let this happen, that Reigns will not carry the title to Mania and that he will be involved in some other feud due to being screwed out of the Rumble.
Now that we have some backstory, we can check out a few the names that have a chance to win the title, and possibly go into Mania defending it, or losing at Fastlane next month and getting a rematch at Mania.

Triple H (-105)
Get out the shovel, because it's time for Trips to bury all the talent on the roster again! Actually, I think Triple H has done a fantastic job bringing talent into the WWE and developing that talent in NXT. He's put on some great matches in the last few years, whether it was against Daniel Bryan at Mania, Sting last year or his last run with Evolution versus the Shield. Now that I think about it, those were all amazing AND Trips put the other talent over in every feud!

Anyways, why is HHH favored tonight? Well he's been off TV for a while now after being attacked by Reigns at some shitty PPV that no one cares about anymore. It's been assumed that Haitch would have a match against Seth Rollins for about a year, but with the Chosen One out, and this very shitty Authority vs Reigns storyline playing out, it only makes sense for Hunter to come back and defend his wife, father in law and the company by taking the strap himself. Say what you want about Hunter's career, he's been foundation for a lot of the WWE's success throughout the years. He never jumped ship, never wavered and busted his ass to get to the top (and married Stephanie McMahon). Triple H is a big time  headline name that the WWE desperately needs right now with it's rash of injuries.

Likeliness to win? Hmmm this is tough. I'm going to give Trips the 3rd best chance to win tonight. He's a big name that can put on solid matches, but it's a little too obvious. Then again, WWE Creative has been God awful over the last year, so we better bump this up to 2nd best chance....

Brock Lesnar (+240)
Lesnar has been booked like a monster the last few years and with his new contract, his sparse appearances have brought the mystique needed to keep his act fresh. Lesnar is the WWE's best asset and needs to be in the spotlight to bring in casual fans and to give PPV cards a big fight feel. Apparently the WWE is angling for a Wyatts vs Lesnar feud, but god damn that would be terrible. Lesnar needs to be somewhere near the top of the card, against a big time opponent. The Wyatts have been booked so poorly over the last year that a feud with the Social Outcasts seems more to their liking. The Wyatt-Lesnar feud can play out two ways: Lesnar wins, ONCE AGAIN burying the Wyatts and making them look weak, or the Wyatts win and you just drastically slashed the credibilty you gave to Lesnar when he beat the Undertaker 3 times.

Likeliness to win? This is your best bet at (+240). Lesnar is due for another title shot, he was a great champion with Paul Heyman by his side. It's time to let the WWE Universe know who the most dangerous man in wrasslin is again.

The Longshots

Kevin Owens (+2200)
Owens is in a great feud right now and probably in the right place as the IC title holder. The IC competition has been great (besides that whole Ryback thing) and guys like Ambrose, Owens, Ziggler and Cesaro are all great candidates to hold the white strap. I love Owens at +2200 because he really should be WWE's top heel. He's great on the mic and has put on multiple 4+ star matches. The cred is there, the star power isn't but this could be the rub Owens needs to be pushed to the top.

The Rock (+3300)
Star power. That's what the People's Champ brings to the table. Vince needs Rocky right now more than ever and the Rock has always taken the call. For the Rock, it's not about money because he has it all. It's about scheduling, his other projects and not getting injured. We all know Vince has made the call, but will the Great One actually show up? I think he will be at the Rumble in some capacity (like last year). Could he win and have a short run culminating in a Mania loss? Sure! Remember, Vince needs 100,000 butts in seats and the Rock is the man to do it.

Daniel Bryan (+4000)
Sadly these odds should be for "Will Daniel Bryan be at the Royal Rumble?" instead of winning the Royal Rumble. Bryan has been out for almost a year with a "concussion / neck injury / head injury" that has the WWE staying as far away from him as possible. Though he is under contract, the former champ and fan fav has been sidelined and relegated to book signings, meet and greets and other non wrestling activities. If Bryan's music hits tonight, we are likely to witness one of the biggest pops in the history of wrestling. But can he win? Well honestly it would not make a lot of sense to put him in, make him lose again and have the crowd shit all over the show like they did last year. Therefore, if Bryan enters the Rumble, he wins the Rumble dammit!!! I love these odds, I love this bet.
