NCAA Basketball Picks

Sugar’s First Round Bracket Boner Picks

March Madness is officially upon us.  When I looked at the lines for today’s match ups I really didn’t see much at first that I would confidently put my money on.  Being the problem solver that I am, I drank a few beers and came back with a different mindset.  Let’s get March Madness rollin’!

#12 North Carolina State (+2.5) vs #5 Saint Louis (L)
NC State already has a tourney game under their belt coming into this game.  The Wolfpack had a couple bad losses this year in conference play.   However, they turned a lot of heads last weekend when they defeated Cuse in the ACC tourney.  A month ago Saint Louis was 25-2.  Since then they’ve gone 1-4 and ended their season 26-6.  No team wants to head into the NCAA tourney after finishing their season 1-4.  SLU has a problem and they have not had time to work it out.  I don’t think the A10 is that great of a conference and I don’t think Saint Louis is that great of a team.  I fully expect the NC State Wolfpack to be the perpetrators of the first 12/ 5 upset of this year’s tournament.
Sugar’s Pick: NC State +2.5

#15 Milwaukee (+16.5) vs #2 Villanova (L)
Do I think Milwaukee upsets Nova? No, but it wouldn’t surprise me.  I think Villanova plays in a weak conference (Big East).  Their biggest win of the season was back in November when they defeated Kansas.  After that win they only faced two ranked opponents and lost both times (Cuse and Creighton). They have not shown me any reason to believe they are a threat in this tournament.  I think they beat Milwaukee and move on but not cover.

Sugar’s Pick: Milwaukee +16.5
