NHL Picks

Thirsty Thursday NHL Picks – FTB

Minnesota (+1.5) @ New Jersey (WINNER!)
This one should come as no surprise to our faithful readers.  I don’t think the Devils are a good hockey team anymore.  They’ve lost 3 straight heading in to tonight’s matchup with the Wild.  To make matters worse, Zach Parise (former Devils’ captain) will be in the building and wearing a green jersey.  I’m taking the youth on Minnesota over the goats on New Jersey.  Minnesota rolls and Parise puts one bar-down for all his ladies in the stands.
Sugar’s Pick: Minnesota +1.5

Columbus @ Montreal (-140) (L)
Montreal is a tough place to play.  20,000+ fans screaming shit at you is bad enough as it is; but these bastards are screaming shit in French and that really just seems to piss other teams off.  The Habs are riding a 3 game win streak while the Jackets are coming off 3-1 loss to Carolina.  What gets me hard is Montreal’s 20-11-5 home record this season versus Columbus’s 16-15-3 away record.  I’m looking for the Habs to roll at home.
Sugar’s Pick: Montreal -140

Tampa Bay (+1.5) @ Ottawa (WINNER!)
Why the hell is Vegas giving Tampa a goal and a half on the spread?  The Bolts have won 4 straight, sit at 3rd in the Eastern Conference with 83 points and are coming off a Stamkos’ hat trick.  The Senators on the other hand, are riding a 2 game losing streak and are barely holding on to 12th place in the East with 69 points.  This is an absolute no brainer.  Stamkos will score one if not two while Johnson adds another and the Bolts roll on home with a 3-1 win.
Sugar’s Pick: Tampa Bay +1.5

Anaheim (+1.5) @ San Jose  (WINNER!)
Both teams head into tonight coming off a loss.  I’m not sold on Bruce Boudreau as a head coach that can win in the playoffs.  He was in Washington before Anaheim and had a very similar team; high powered offense that lacks in defense, and relies heavily on a good goal tender.  I don’t think his “just out score everyone” style of coaching will ever bring him a Cup.  Tonight is not a game for the Stanley Cup though.  Four years ago Sharks were very similar to present day Anaheim.  They’re older though and don’t have as much “pep in their step” if you will.  Getzlaf and Perry are younger versions of Thorton and Marleau in my mind.  Anaheim rolls on the road; if not they lose by 1 goal because it’s in the Shark Tank.

Sugar’s Pick: Anaheim +1.5
