US Open
Tomorrow the US Open kicks off down in Pinehurst, NC. The season for golf so far this year has been a dud if you ask me. As soon as Tiger checked out for the year I pretty much stopped paying attention. However, being a man who likes making money and all, I’ve put in a fair amount of time and energy to look up some of the numbers on how this season has gone. After doing so, I feel confident on my ability to make some pretty solid picks. You might be thinkin’ to yourself, “how the hell does this guy know who’s going to win?” I definitely have absolutely no fuckin clue. What I do have a good feeling about though is who is going to finish in the top 20 and in the top 10. That’s where the money is. I made 3 picks for finishing in the top 20 and 3 for the top 10. You’re welcome.
TO FINISH IN TOP 20
Jason Dufner (+140) – Dufner has played in 12 events this season and has put up some decent numbers. He has six top 25 finishes, four top 10 finishes, and one 2nd place finish. There’s definitely an increase in intensity whenever there’s a Major Championship to be won but ole Duff is up to the task I think.
Jimmy Walker (+200) – I’ll take Jimmy Walker for 200 please. This American born bad ass might not be on your golf radar but he should be. Jimmy’s played in 18 events this year and has 3 wins, one 2nd place finish, seven top 10 finishes, and fourteen top 25 finishes. This guy finished tied for 8th at the Masters. You know who else finished 8th? Rory.
Rickie Fowler (+300) – Fowler hasn’t put up flashy numbers this season. He did however finish tied for 5th fuckin place at the Masters. So what he’s missed the cut 7 times this year? He might shock everyone and grab one of the top 5 spots here at the US Open. When the line is +300 and it’s a guy that almost won the first Major Championship this season, I’m definitely betting he finishes top 20.
TO FINISH IN TOP 10
Jason Day (+260) – Day is a tough guy to really break down. He’s only played in 5 events this season. On the bright side he’s never missed a cut and has won 1 tournament. The way I look at it, this guy wins 20% of the tournaments he goes to so a top 10 finish should be easy money.
Matt Kuchar (+195) – Kuchar is a solid and consistent golfer. At least that’s what his stats tell me. He’s played in 15 events and only missed the cut twice. On top of that he’s finished in the top 10 at 9 events. They say numbers never lie. Well, Kuchars’ numbers say that he finishes in the top 10 60% of the time. I like my odds here.
Sergio Garcia (+260) – With the World Cup right around the corner, I figured I’d throw in a Spaniard. Garcia has only played in 8 tournaments this season but he’s finished in the top 10 five times. Again, numbers don’t lie; 62.5% of the events Garcia attends he finishes in the top 10. I like my odds with this guy as well.
