World Cup 2014

World Cup Picks - June 21st, 2014

Argentina (-2; -155) vs Iran (L)
Iran is scoreless through one game so far in this tournament. Today they take on the best offense on paper that international soccer has to offer. Argentina's lack of defensive skill will be a problem going forward in this tournament but probably will not be an issue in this match.  As I said, on paper Argentina is as good as it gets on offense. They haven't played close to their potential through one game which may be a bad sign. Today's game will tell all; either Argentina will show itself as the offensive machine it should be or they will fall victim to individuals attempting too much on their own. My bet is on Iran getting blown out.

Argentina vs Iran (L)
OVER/UNDER: OVER 3 (-115)
I don't think Iran will be held scoreless by a team as weak defensively as Argentina. On top of that I think (hope) Argentina scores at least 3 here today.

Germany (-1.5; -120) vs Ghana (L)

Muller GermanyGhana is coming off a heart breaking loss to the US while ze Germans head into this match appearing unstoppable. The Germans were hitting on all cylinders in their opener against Portugal. They scored 4 goals and gave up nothing. Ghana is better overall and will pose a bigger test than the Portuguese, but I don't see any reason to doubt this German soccer machine. They're serious cup contenders that I don't think will be taking any games lightly.  Ghana will be hoping to slow down Mueller who is on fire. The problem is even if they manage to stop him there's an arsenal of German players just as good.  Ghana was on the attack much of the game against the US. That will not be the case tonight. It will be interesting to see how Ghana competes while not being in control most of the game. My guess is it will be another German blowout victory.
