POST ALL-STAR NBA PICKS!!

The NBA is finally back!! After a riveting all-star weekend where almost every event was entertaining besides the actual game, it will be nice to get back to good ole fashioned basketball contests as we head towards the playoffs. Let's lay some picks down and make some money like we do best!

UTA vs. WAS +2

This might be the last win the Wizards get for a little bit. Today they took a minor swing for the fences by trading for Markieff Morris and possibly destroyed and chemistry their team might have had before the break. Hopefully the players aren't too devastated by the news of their new teammates and are able to pull this game out against the Jazz.

CHI +13 vs. CLE

Of course Cleveland is the obvious pick here with Butler and half of the Bulls supporting cast expected to be out. You know who isn't out though? Pau Gasol, and Pau is good enough to cover this thirteen point spread by himself. I like Cleveland to get up big early and coast to a ten point victory in the end.

SAS +-4.5 vs. LAC

The Clippers made a game changing trade this morning!! They shook up the entire team with a move that no one saw coming!! Well, maybe that's a little too far, people definitely saw it coming. The team formerly known as Lob City decided to move on from their off-season acquisition  Lance Stephenson and replaced him with another infuriating player, Jeff "Trick or Treat" Green as he is commonly referred to. Meanwhile the Spurs just keep chugging along, not making any big moves and only improving their chemistry and passing ability. I like the Spurs to win this game in a rout.

Wednesdays LAY and GRAB Points Picks!

CLE -9.0 vs. CHA

The Cavs are averaging over 115 points a game on their current win streak post-Blatt!! Charlotte has been decimated by injuries lately and are struggling to return to form that saw them hold the 2 seed out east earlier in the season. Plus you know LeBron loves to show off in front of his idol MJ, so expect fireworks in Charlotte tonight as the King puts on a show.

DET +4.5 vs. BOS

When the hell did the Celtics decide they were the best three point shooting team in the history of civilization?? A few nights ago Boston decided to jack up 45 threes in a regulation basketball game!! Not practice, we talking about a game!! On the other side you have the team that should actually be shooting 45 threes a game to alleviate some of their offensive woes. I'll take the points in this one because the Celtics have no idea what kind of team they are right now.

GSW -10.5 vs. WAS

Usually I go for a desperate points grab whenever the Warriors play because the opposing team gets an absurd of points for an NBA game. So how do you explain this line?? It makes no sense, even on the road the Dubs should be favored by 15-20, so the points grab seems like the obvious play.

DEN +7.5 vs. UTAH

My favorite sneaky cover team is back for another episode, this time in the city of Mormons, Salt Lake City!! Jazz have looked a lot better since Gobert has returned to form, so this is definitely a dangerous line, but that many points is hard to turn down.

MONDAY'S TOP 3 NBA PICKS!!

Since anybody who is anybody is going to be watching the Spurs and Warriors do battle tonight in Oracle; this is a sneaky good betting day for under the radar lines.

HOU +5 vs. NOP

J Smoove comes back to H-Town and all of a sudden everyone starts playing better!! James Harden is doing everything he can to win games, and Smoove looks like the all-star from back in his ATL days rather than the dude who couldn't get any burn on the Clippers bench earlier this season. Although I have been impressed with how the Pelicans have been playing of late, I think Houston goes on a mini winning streak right now and wins at least the next three or four games in a row.

ATL vs. DEN +5

I know the people of Denver probably forgot they had a basketball team after the outcome of the AFC championship on Sunday, but the Nuggets are surprisingly decent these days. Early in the season they were hot garbage that I was arguing should trade everybody and start over, but now? I'm not so sure anymore. Gallo is finally healthy and playing like that second level elite type player that he could be, Mudiay is running the point and droppin dimes, and rookie sensation Jokic is a serviceable NBA big man who reminds me of a young Pau Gasol on the block!! Those are some pretty solid pieces when all added together, and I think it is going to be just enough to help these Nugz score an upset tonight against the Hawks.

CLE -13.5 vs. MIN

Is it too early to say this might be the biggest game of the Cavs season thus far?? After firing their coach and then laying an egg against Chicago in their first game post-Blatt, the Cavs absolutely have to come out and have a monster effort against the dangerous Wolves. This game is going to be surprisingly close throughout with LeBron doing just enough in the fourth to put this one away and give the Cavs the cover.

MLK DAY TOP 5 LOCKS!!

CHA vs. UTA +2.5

The Hornets are in an absolute tailspin after losing center Al Jefferson, first to a suspension and then an injury. Losers of 9 out of their last 10, makes this an easy point grab for the always feisty Jazz.

MEM vs. NOP +4

We all know how much Anthony Davis loves playing against undersized power forwards, or at least I assume that he does.  Sure Memphis has Marc Gasol to stand behind Z-Bo and at least contest the Brow's shots, but defensively and rebounding AD is going to be an absolute nightmare against this front line. Ryan Anderson has also been playing better of late since he started getting mentioned in trade rumors, maybe he is trying to improve his stock so that the Pelicans get a better offer for me, what a guy.

ORL +7.5 vs ATL

The Magic getting 7.5 points??? I must be dreaming!! I would take this line if the Magic were playing someone like the Cavs, but against the Hawks this is free money!!

GSW +3 vs. CLE

This is one of those lines that hurts me to throw out, even though I know it is the smart play. I want the Cavs to win this game, as a matter of fact I would even say there's a very good chance that they win this game. But Golden State has lost 2 out of 3 and beat the Cavs previously in this series, so the smart play here is to take the points. Cleveland has had trouble during crunch time against great teams, hopefully those struggles continue tonight in the city known as the mistake by the lake.

DAL +1.5 vs. BOS

This game features two of the best coached teams in basketball, and will be a straight up execution-fest. Watch this one if you like set plays being run over and over, proper screens being set, and more back door cutz than Future's latest mixtape. In the end I like the Mavs only because they are coming off a blowout in San Antonio, and should find playing against Boston much easier than dealing with the Spurs.

Dirty Picks: Playoff Edition

Golden State Warriors vs. New Orleans Pelicans

Catz: Not sure why all of the talking heads think  that the Pelicans can steal one or even two of these games. I get "the brow" is a ridiculous NBA player, but look at the guards that Nawlins trots out there....marquee names that strike fear into an opponent like Tyreke, Norris Cole, or Eric Gordon. There's a good chance NOP doesn't even get a lead in this series let alone a win.

Nutz: I'm not going to be a dick like Catz and insult a team that just made it to the Western Conference playoffs with a young squad. But I am going to predict an absolute ass whoopin, the likes of hasn't been seen since Stone Cold Steve Austin wore the strap! The Dubs have incredible ball movement, a smart coach and an amazing backcourt. I also have a slight grudge against the 'Cans as they cost me a seafood buffet dinner by hitting the over this season. 

Consensus: Warriors in 4.

Houston Rockets vs Dallas Mavericks

Catz: We went back and forth on this in the DP office, originally I was interested in picking HOU in 6 until Nutz brought up a few solid points and Sugar shocked the office with his Surgalski scoop that Dirk is going to shoot jumpers this series!! That's the kind of dynamite reporting we have around these parts. Because of all that info I was forced to reconsider my pick and I did....Rockets in 6.

Nutz:  Shit are we at IHOP?! CAUSE WE'VE BEEN WAFFLIN ON THIS PICK ALL DAY!!!!!!! Nothin? Ok, well I'm going Rockets here as well. The Rocks have dominated this matchup all year, mostly due to their perimeter domination. The Mavs, touting a guard lineup of Monta Ellis and The Man We Used To Call Rajon Rondo, won't have any success trying to guard James Harden and whoever else is out there. I was a little worried because Dirk lives for the playoffs and Rondo always saves his best performances for the the post season. Not to mention Rick Carlisle....shit....whatever, ROLL IT! Rockets in 6!

Consensus: Rockets in 6

Los Angeles Clippers vs. San Antonio Spurs

Catz: CATZ'S SUPER UPSET OF THE FIRST ROUND!! Not really an upset if you are one of those traditional seeding kind of guys, but we all know who is the favorite in this series. This is the Clippers championship right here, and they are going to put every ounce of effort in to winning this series. They might even lose the next series after this depending on who they play, but Blake, CP3 and DeAndre will score the upset against the defending champs!! Clippers in 7!!!

Nutz: I am going to give this one to the Spurs based on two things: I HATE the Clippers! Blake Griffin has become so whiny and bitchy that it's hard to watch him at this point. Pair that with super tough, bad ass supreme Matt Barnes (terrible basketball player) and you have a very unlikeable team. Second reason: They're the Spurs. You have to trust Pop, Duncan, Parker and to an extent, Manu. Just trust em. 

Catz: Clips in 7. Nutz: Spurs in 7.

Portland Trail Blazers vs Memphis Grizzlies

Catz: Terrible matchup here for the Blazers. Maybe they would have a chance at winning a game or two if they were fully healthy, but they aren't so break out the brooms. Grindhouse is going to take care of business and the Blazers in relatively quick fashion. GRIZZ IN 4.

Nutz: This sucks! The Blazers busted their asses all season to get a top 3 seed, only for Aldridge to get hurt for an extended period of time and to lose Wes Matthews for the year. This team has done well to patch things up over the last few weeks, but they clearly miss Matthews. The Grizz are too much of a defensive juggernaut to survive a full series against the grind house. 

Catz: Memphis in 4. Nutz: Grizz in 6

Atlanta Hawks vs Brooklyn Nets

Catz: This could honestly be the most one sided playoff series in recent history. The Hawks could literally start their second string and still end up sweeping this series. I hate the Nets. Garbage team owned by a guy who doesn't give a fuck (not you Hov EDITOR'S NOTE: "Hov" is no longer part of ownership. Catz apparently does not know this) and a couple of "stars" who didn't even care enough to respond when a former teammate basically called them pussies in the media. You think Lebron would respond if someone questioned his professionalism? Yeah that's not a great look D-Will, have fun in Shanghai next year. Hawks in 2.5...minutes that it takes to realize how lopsided this one is.

Nutz:  The Nets will probably somehow win a game in this series, but we all know they aren't going anywhere. Deron Williams is just terrible and Joe Johnson should be playing for the Pelicans right now. I seriously hate this franchise. They're boring as fuck, their unis suck and their arena and fans suck. If they didn't have Lionel Hollins there would be no reason for them to exist as a franchise. 

Consensus: Hawks in 4

Cleveland Cavaliers vs Boston Celtics

Catz: This is the worst possible matchup for the Celtics. They can't defend anyone from driving to the rim and the Cavs have two of the three best players at doing just that. Really the only positive that could come out of this series is if Brad Stevens is able to have a secret lunch with Kevin Love where he can pitch him wearing green next season. Enjoy the Lebron hates Boston show everybody. 

Cleveland in 4. 

Nutz: Am I the only one that thinks it's weird that Boston is in the playoffs?! I feel completely unprepared for this series! I have no clue who plays on this team (that's not true) but I definitely know that the Celtics will not win a game in this series. Brad Stevens is a good coach, but LeBron doesn't fuck around in the first round and Kevin Love needs to prove his worth for whatever team he hops to this summer! 

Consensus: Cavs in 4.

Toronto Raptors vs Washington Wizards

Catz: If this series featured the two teams that we watched back in December, my enthusiasm for these games would be much greater. Unfortunately for both Rapes and Wizards fans, these are not those teams. Injuries have basically destroyed the season for both teams, but it seems like the Raptors are taking the injury plague exceptionally hard. Meanwhile the Wizards have a very talented team that would be light years better if they had even a semi-competent coach at the helm. With all of that being said, I like the Raptors to win this series purely because their coach sucks a little bit less than the Wizards coach. Wiz in a sloppy 6.

Nutz: I have no idea how this one is going to go! These teams are the exact same! This is just "Default Eastern Conference Playoff series." I am going to roll with the Raptors! They have home court advantage, and a hellacious one at that. The Raps are a solid enough team to win this series in 6. 

Catz: Wiz in 6. Nutz: Raps in 6.

Milwaukee Bucks vs Chicago Bulls

Catz: When I first checked out this series I wanted to make the case for Milwaukee because of their depth, coaching and GIANNIS!!! Then I really buckled down and thought to myself "the fucks going on here, I can't bet on Milwaukee to beat Chicago!!" That pretty much settled it for me. Milwaukee is a good story and should be a fun team to watch over the next couple of years, but this is a veteran-laden, well coached, tough Chicago team. J Kidd is about to get a rough teaching lesson from Thibs because it's Thibs and that's what he does. Chicago in 5. 

Nutz: Much like Catz I wanted to roll the Bucks because it's fun! But Thibs doesn't care for fun. He only cares about running his players into the damn ground until they can't go anymore! That's the formula for a dominant first round and a second round sweep ladies and gentleman!

Consensus: Chicago in 5

Saturday NBiscuitsA Breakdown

CHA (+3.5) at CLE (WINNER!)
Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters are like water and oil. They do not go well together which is surprising because they are both ball dominant scoring guards who don't pass and get routinely torched on the defensive end (what a shocker!!). I don't have the official stats to back me up, but it seems like the Cavs are a much better team when only one of them plays. That is why we are backing the Catz again tonight. Last night Kemba messed around and got a triple double, big Al put on a big ole clinic and dropped some serious points. Look for this trend to continue as the Catz d up the Cavs and score another win for the third best player of all time, Michael Jordan (not a misprint).

BK (-10.5) at PHI (L)
Yes, Philadelphia has won two out of four games and has looked like an actual basketball team over the last two weeks. This year however I have had zero success betting against the Nets and am desperate to buck this trend. The Nets roll ten deep and get unexpected contributions from different players every night (see Teletovic's 20 points in 23 minutes last night). I'm expecting a complete team effort from the Nets tonight as they return the Sixers to their losing ways and continue their own march towards the 3 seed in the east.

BOS at DET under 207.5 (L)
Rajon Rondo will miss tonight's game against the second most depressing team from Detroit (Red Wings and Lions are tied for first). I'm expecting a suck fest where both teams are settling for jacked up jumpers and forced threes as they struggle to score 100 points each. That's the key here, as long as one of these terrible teams doesn't score 100 points this under is in the bag. Look for the Celtics to struggle all night putting the ball in the basket as we finish with a 97-73 type ball game.

The final four is this weekend and in honor we decided to inject a little madness into our picks by rolling out our first ever moneyline madness! We have seven moneylines that are all guaruanteed victories and if you are feeling pretty confident throw them all in a parlay and win yourself a cool 20 grand or so.

DEN @ MEM (-470) (WINNER!) 

Same shit, different day here as the Grizz need a win and the Nuggets still suck. Look for a lot of Z-bo and the other Gasol as the Grizz pound away down low on the Nuggets and get a much needed win in their playoff chase.

ORL @ CHA (-543) (WINNER!)

I have a big crush on this Bobcats team. I think its because I am big fan of low post play and watching Al Jefferson is like popping in an instructional video on the subject. Also they have Kemba Walker who stole all of our hearts a few years back with his play in the Big East tournament and NCAA championship run. Look for this one to be a close game, but eventually the Catz will pull away for the victory. 

DET @ BKN (-575) (WINNER!)

Is there a franchise with a bleaker outlook than the Pistons right now? They are a terrible basketball team on the floor, in the front office and even in the stands (seriously people from Michigan suck). I have been going against this Nets team all season and of course because I am going with them now they will undoubtedly lose by 55 to the Pistons.

CLE (+111) @ ATL (L)

Danny Ferry the GM of the Hawks came out this week and said that being the 8th seed in the playoffs is not a goal of this Atlanta team. Concerns with that statement aside, this means that they are not that interested in winning these winnable games. The Cavs have been playing really well lately despite the fact that they are competing for absolutely nothing expect pride. Although the combination of Irving and Waiters has not been great this season, I am expecting big nights from each in a big win for the Cavs.

IND (+101) at TOR (L)

The Pacers have been a gambling nightmare all season long. They rarely cover spreads and look like they might not be the locks that everyone was expecting to make the eastern conference finals anymore. However, for some reason I like them against a very good Raptors team tonight. Look for Paul George to get out of a second half season slump and have a big night against the Rap Show.

DAL (-345) @ LAL (WINNER!)

Another must win game for a desperate playoff team with the number of remaning games rapidly dissapearing. In addition they are riding some momentum after getting a big win over the cross-town Clippers last night. Look for a big game from Dirk Diggler and for the Mavs to lead this one wire-to-wire.

OKC (+118) @ HOU (L)

The James Harden revenge game. The Rockets are favored in this game, I am assuming because the Thunder played a tough one last night against the Spurs. However, I think the big two of Westbrook and Durant will get up for this game and look to show up the Rockets as they continue to fight for that number one seed out west now that the Spurs look human again.

Tuesday Tongue Tornado Picks

Working weekends is a bitch. You know what the best part is though? Tuesday! Tuesday means my weekend is just around the corner and every little thing that drives you crazy at work you can deal with because the weekend is only a few hours away. Coworkers want to engage you in mindless banter about their kids? Id love to hear it! You know why? Because it's Tuesday! Hopefully everyone that reads this blog knows that I cannot pick over/unders and went against all four of my picks winning a nice little chunk of change for retirement yesterday.

Raptors (-179) against the Cavs (L)
The other day against the Knicks, the Cavs were down huge at half and it appeared New York might do the unthinkable and throw themselves into the playoff conversation in the east! Until the second half started and the Cavs had one of the all time great shooting halves for a team as Jarrett Jack dropped 31 in the comeback win. Ladies and gentlemen your 2013-14 Knicks! Well the Raptors are not the Knicks; they are a solid defensive team, they pass the ball well and even take shots when they are open (what a concept!!). Look for rape city to come out and put away a shitty Cavs team as they pick this one up on the road.

LAL (+7) at NY (WINNER!)
The Knicks!! Yes I'm aware that the Lakers are not very good and are more injured than Detroit forward Pavel Datysuk (pussy). However I think that the Lake Show has more pride than the Knicks and know that Phil Jackson will be in the building tonight to see what he could have had instead. Think of this game as the revenge of the ex as the Lakers show up, play hard for 48 minutes and possibly even sneak out a win against the shitty Knicks. By the way as a lifelong Knicks fan, fuck the Knicks, this has been the worst season ever.

NBA Teaser!

After nailing a nasty parlay last night in what some would argue was one of the most difficult trio of picks of all time, tonight we try the other side of things with a little teaser action.

Every time we have bet against the Nets this year we have gotten our shit rocked. So last week we decided to finally jump on the Brooklyn band wagon and throw some money on the  Nets for once. Look for the Kidds to come out swinging and for the deepest rotation in basketball to control this game from the jump, stealing one from Dirk Nasty and the Cubans.

The Knicks are in full blow audition mode after the recent hiring of Phil Jackson. It makes you wonder if they made this move two weeks ago if they could snag that eighth spot. Alas with so few games remaining the Hawks should be able to hold on and secure it, but that doesn't mean the Knicks won't win a few more games. Look for a huge Hardaway Junior night against the same man he took it to in tech Rising Stars challenge as the Knicks knock out the Kyrie less Kavs (intentional).

Bob's Saturday's SOOOOOOPER SLAM Picks

Yesterday I got a little too cute like I was working the night shift in the Red Light district of Amsterdam, and it cost me. I had arguably my worst night so far, mostly because I was picking road teams thinking that they would keep things competitive. Well today we are going to try something a little different, we are gonna go chalk across the board to see what happens.

NY at CLE (-2) (L)
This is going to be the Kyrie Irving and Dion Waiters bonanza. Look for these two to take advantage of a Knicks backcourt that struggles to play anything resembling a defense. Kyrie will have 35 points and 7 dimes and Dion should chip in 20-25 as the Cavs add another loss to the Knicks terrible season.

UTAH (-5.5) at PHI (WINNER!)
There have been multiple articles written this week about how the 76ers could legitimately finish the season without getting another victory. While I do not believe that is going to be the case, it's definitely a real possibility. The Jazz have been playing very up and down basketball as of late, which is to be expected of a young team. They do have talent though, which is more than the Sixers can say. Look for the Jazz to pound the ball down low against the Sixers and who ever they are starting at center (seriously I have no idea). This game will start out competitive, but do not expect it to be close after halftime.

WAS (-8) at MIL (L)
The Wizards have turned a corner especially after the All-Star break, despite losing Nene for an extended period of time. The Bucks continue to struggle on a nightly basis and appear to be more interested in giving the majority of playing time to youngsters in order to see what they have, instead of being competitive. Look for John Wall to have a big night and the Bucks to struggle on the second night of a back to back.

ATL at LAC (-14.5) (L)
The Clippers put up almost 150 points the other night on the Lakers in an impressive show of offense. They have really rounded into form as of late, and look to be contenders for the Western Conference title. They will keep this run going tonight by blasting the Hawks at home and will only get better as they get healthier going forward.

BJ's Saturday Hangover Pick

ORL at SA (-15.5) (L)

Yeah Vegas is just begging you to take the Magic here. They probably aren't as bad as their record shows, but they have no incentive to go out and win this game. The Spurs will try to put this away early so that Timmy, Tony, and Manu can get some rest. Look for Boris Diaw, Marvel Supervillain Tiago Splitter and Patty Mills to torch the Orlando starters the rest of the way for an 18 point win.

Toronto Raptors (-3) @ Cleveland Cavaliers (WINNER!)

The playoffs are approaching and in the shit-tastic circus that is the Eastern Conference, almost anyone can grab a spot. The Cavaliers, hell bent on grabbing the 8th seed so that they can get bitch slapped out of the first round, need every home win possible to stay in play. As they say in the business, "when you want to get in the playoffs, trade for a big white center." Which is exactly what the Cleve did.  The Raptors on the other hand have remained steady throughout the year. The Raptors shouldn't have any trouble keeping Mike Brown's genius at bay as they cruise to another victory. Raps by 7.

Friday NBA Picks

Having suffered my second day in a row of subpar picks, I've decided to try a few new methods. First, I will no longer be selecting winners from college basketball. I can't handle putting my gambling reputation on 18-21 (27 if you are BYU) year olds that shit their pants every time they go on the road in conference and shoot free throws like Andris Biedrins. Second, I will also sacrifice three birds and two goats to Chtulhu daily in hopes that he removes this gambling curse that has taken me over. So, in summation just like TLC I don't want no scrubs, and I'm going to stick to the rivers and lakes that I'm used to.


CLE (+8.5) vs Toronto (WINNER!)

Both of these teams have had success as of late. The Raptors have been surging since they traded the worst teammate in pro sports, Rudy Gay. Similarly, the Cavs have been exceptionally better since they cut the second worst teammate in pro sports, Andrew Bynum. With all that said I don't understand how the line is so high in favor of the raptors, even with Dion Waiters being out for the Cavs I think ultimately that might help rather than hurt. Look for big nights from Kyrie and Tristan Thompson as the Cavs cover and possibly even win. Seriously who would be a worse teammate than the two guys above? Gilbert Arenas? Saddam Hussein? Naw, it's definitely Bynum or Gay.

NY (-3) at ORL (L)
The Magic appear to be in full blown tank mode. Just last night they bought out their starting power forward Glen "tossing monitors" Davis making him a free agent. Don't be surprised if they sit Afflalo or Oladipo for extended periods of time for what seem like minor injuries. On the other side, the Knicks are fighting for their playoff lives and have looked better since the break. Tim Hardaway Jr is doing what JR Smith did last year, and Melo is always doing Melo things. Look for the Knicks to take advantage of a weaker opponent and cruise to victory in this one.

Denver @ Chicago (UNDER 190) (L)

Our last Chicago under pick went over by 3 points, mostly because Los Bulls started off the first quarter with a bang. Again, besides Memphis maybe, no team is better at making you play their style of game. A poorly coached, injured Denver team will not be lighting it up against Thibs and the Boys tonight. Worry about Chicago putting up big numbers if anything.

The Return of Bob's NBA Picks

Alright, the NBA is back today! No more betting on college basketball games decided by children that can't drink alcohol legally. So in honor of that and making money in general, let's overload today's picks and make all the money back we lost on college ball this weekend.

Charlotte vs Detroit (UNDER 202) (L)
The Pistons have been up and down since they fired their coach two weeks ago. The Bobcats on the other hand have trouble scoring, but they do play solid defense. Look for Michael Kidd-Gilchrist to lock down Josh Smith and keep this game under 202 points.

New York at Memphis (OVER 181) (W)
Memphis is known for it's tough defense, excellent rebounding and reigning DPOY Marc Gasol.
